this week's research and practice

Stood happily in the wind and rain outside of the post office Saturday morning to pick up my Beginning Autoharp Instruction Book by Bonnie Phipps from 1983. It's a lovely straight forward and easy to understand book. I got it off of Amazon. And from the Bristol library I got two charmers: Folk Style Autoharp by Harry Taussig from 1967 and Fun with the Autoharp by Mel Bay from 1971. I'm picking up two more books and a cd (Eddie Vedder playing the ukulele, how cool is that?) tomorrow after school.
I'm listening to the Carter Family in the car for inspiration. I quite like Sweet Fern . I like a good yodel. And I'm not being sophisticatedly sarcastic when I say that.
I had a good practice this morning. I need to get better at pattern and rhythm. But I reckon I have no time limit to learn this stuff....

It's arrived!

I'm just a bit excited and don't want to do any school work tonight. I've had a go at tuning it and talking chords with my husband. Husband of 20 years as of this coming Saturday by the way! I've ordered a learning autoharp book and am waiting for it to arrive and I also found out that you can reserve sheet music from the local library services and they will deliver it to my branch for a small fee. Cool. Do you like the stripes?

It's about Autoharps, seriously

I'm awaiting the delivery of my Christmas present. So excited. Thank you to my hubby and kids. I've been learning the guitar with my son and I can play Love Me Tender and Will The Circle Be Unbroken. Learning with him has been so good. He has his lessons at school and then he comes home and shows me what he's learned that day. Lovin' the two for the price of 1 deal with the lessons. I also have a ukulele, but haven't really gotten past learning three notes on it. I find trying to use the cd off putting. Will be using youtube and other avenues from now on.
When in grade school our wonderful music teacher had us all on autoharps to learn to read music and I just thought it was lovely. Watch this space...
